Essential Instructions for Getting the Most Out of Your In-Ear Monitors

Protecting Your Hearing and Your Monitors

• Always use a fast limiter in your signal chain.  This is critical for preventing sudden volume spikes that can damage your hearing and blow your monitor drivers. A limiter acts as a safety net, especially in live or unpredictable audio environments.
• Route the cord behind your shirt when possible.  This helps prevent accidental snags or pulls that could damage the cord or yank the monitors from your ears.
• Store your monitors in their case when not in use.  Leaving them out increases the risk of physical damage, dust exposure, or misplacement.

How to Insert Your Monitors Properly

1. Identify left and right monitors.  Most are labeled; if not, check the cord orientation.
2. Insert the right monitor using your right hand.  Hold the earpiece so the cable points downward.
3. Lift your outer ear (pinna) gently.  This opens the ear canal for easier insertion.
4. Insert the canal tip slowly and rotate into place.  You should feel a snug fit—almost like it “snaps” in.
5. Wrap the cord over your ear.  The built-in soft wire lets you shape it like an eyeglass hook for secure placement.

Daily Care and Long-Term Maintenance

Following these simple habits will extend the life of your monitors and ensure consistent performance:

• Wipe down the earpieces with a soft cloth after each use.
• Avoid exposing monitors to extreme temperatures (e.g., hot car dashboards).
• Never immerse monitors in water or attempt to clean the ear canals with liquid.
• Protect monitors from impact—dropping or sharp blows can cause internal damage.

• Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.  Clean the exterior with a mild soap-and-water solution or rubbing alcohol.

When Would You Use a Single Monitor?

Single monitors are typically ordered as replacements for lost or damaged units.  If you’ve misplaced one side or had a monitor fail outside warranty, you don’t need to buy a full new set — we’ve got you covered.

We don’t recommend using a single monitor in one ear for regular performance or rehearsal.

Why?  Because it can lead to long-term hearing damage due to unbalanced exposure.  When one ear is protected and the other is exposed to full stage volume, your brain compensates — and that can push your open ear into dangerous territory over time.
